Dne 22. září 2016 uspořádal Občanský institut s Polským institutem uzavřenou expertní debatu s profesorem Ryszardem Legutkem, politickým filosofem a polským poslancem Evropského parlamentu. Diskuse na téma „Politics in Poland, Politics in the EU, and the Future of Trans-Atlantic Relations“ se věnovala především současné vnitropolitické situaci v Polsku a jejímu odrazu v zahraničí, zvláště v aktuálních vztazích s EU. Dotčeny byly také současné vnitřní problémy EU a s tím související potřeba reforem, jímž se však většina evropských institucí i členských států brání. S ohledem na stávající vývoj se proto jako žádoucí jeví užší spolupráce zemí střední a východní Evropy, jež rozšíří existující úspěšnou spolupráci v rámci Visegrádské skupiny, a to i v kontextu nárůstu bezpečnostních hrozeb v evropském sousedství.

On 22 September 2016 the Civic Institute and the Polish Institute hosted a debate for invited guests. The guest speaker was Professor Ryszard Legutko, Polish MEP and political philosopher. The discussion’s topic “Politics in Poland, Politics in the EU, and the Future of Trans-Atlantic Relations” was directed towards Poland’s current internal politics and its impact on the country’s position in international politics considering mainly the relationship with the EU. Attention was paid also to the problems in the EU’s internal politics and the need for reform which is being refused by the majority of the EU members and institutions. With regard to current developments the closer cooperation between the countries of Central and Eastern Europe is desirable. The cooperation within the Visegrad Group would therefore be strengthened in the face of the new security challenges in the EU’s neighbouring regions.
