Dne 15. září 2016 uspořádal Občanský institut uzavřenou expertní debatu s profesorem Lotharem Höbeltem, odborníkem na moderní dějiny působícím na Vídeňské univerzitě a Tereziánské vojenské akademii ve Vídni. Diskuse na téma „Austria Before Presidential Elections, and After“ se věnovala aktuální vnitropolitické situaci v Rakousku před druhým kolem prezidentských voleb s důrazem na postavení jednotlivých politických stran. Zvláštní pozornost byla zaměřena na politiku strany FPÖ a její záměry do budoucna, a to i v kontextu nedávné návštěvy jejího prezidentského kandidáta Norberta Hofera v Praze, kde prezentoval návrh na užší regionální spolupráci zemí střední a východní Evropy.

On 15 September 2016 the Civic Institute hosted a debate for invited guests. The guest speaker was Professor Lothar Höbelt, a prominent scholar specialising in Modern History and lecturing at the University of Vienna and the Theresian Military Academy. The main topic of discussion was “Austria Before Presidential Elections and After” with the focus on the political situation in Austria before the re-run of May’s presidential election and on the political parties’ standings. Special attention was paid to the Freedom Party’s (FPO) current politics and plans for the future activities also considering the presidential candidate Norbert Hofer’s recent visit to Prague where he expressed the idea of Austria’s closer cooperation with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
