Občanský institut uspořádal ve čtvrtek 18.září, od 13:00 mezinárodní konferenci “Pět let války v Iráku”., Hlavním řečníkem byl plukovník John A.Nagl, veterán obou válek v zálivu a v současnosti jeden z nejznámějších expertů na protipovstalecký boj. Dalšími řečníky byli provozní ředitel RFE/RL a bývalý poradce Margaret Thatcherové John O´Sullivan a ředitel Radia Svobodný Irák Sergei Danilochkin.
Konference proběhla v angličtině.

John O’Sullivan
John O´Sullivan is Executive Editor of Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty and a Senior Fellow of the Hudson Institute. Prior to that, he was Editor-in-Chief of National Interest, Editor-in-Chief of United Press International, Editor-in-Chief of National Review, and a special advisor to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. He is the founder of the New Atlantic Initiative, Editor-at-Large of National Review, and a member of the Civic Institute´s Board of Advisors.

Sergei Danilochkin
Sergey Danilochkin is Director of Radio Free Iraq, an Arabic language service of RFE/RL broadcasting in Iraq. He has been with the company in different journalist capacities since 1997 working from Prague, Washington, D.C. and Moscow. Prior to that he was working with a number of print and electronic media organizations covering the Middle East, international relations and Russian foreign policy. He was posted as a correspondent in Beirut and Washington. Michigan Journalism and Freedom Support Act Fellow of 1994. Mr. Danilochkin has degrees in journalism, international relations and business specializing in the Arabic-speaking countries.

John A. Nagl
Lieutenant Colonel John A. Nagl, Center for a New American Security. John A. Nagl is a retired officer of the United States Army and influential expert in counterinsurgency. He served as a tank platoon leader during the Gulf War and in 2003 as an operations officer with an armored battalion stationed near Khaldiya. He lectured at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He helped to author the US Army´s counterinsurgency field manual (FM 3-24), and currently helps training the MiT Teams – small groups of soldiers tasked to develop the Iraqi Army. Lt. Col. Nagl is affiliated with a rising group of mid-level military intellectuals, many of whom who have been chosen, at one time or another, to provide insight and recommendations to General David Petraeus.

Roman Joch
Dr. Joch is the Executive Director of the Civic Institute in Prague. He is a well known commentator and lecturer on political philosophy, international relations, with an emphasis on US Domestic and Foreign Policies. Dr. Joch is frequently heard on radio and seen on TV; his articles on current issues appear in printed media almost on daily basis. In addition, he is the author of several monographs and expert studies including: American Foreign Policies and the Role of the US in the World (Studies OI, Prague 2000), Why Iraq? Reasons and Consequences of the Conflict (Prague 2003), and (together with Frank S. Meyer) Rebellion against the Revolution of the 20th Century (Prague 2003).
